A 25-year-old man was killed and three other residents were abducted after gunmen attacked Tashar Hajiya community in Niger State in the early hours of July 24.
According to reports, the attack occurred at about 2:30 a.m. when the armed assailants stormed the community and opened fire on residents.
The deceased was identified as Mustafa Murtala, who was reportedly shot during the assault.
The attackers also allegedly abducted Alhaji Baza Baza, his wife, and one of their daughters before fleeing the community.
As of the time the incident was reported, the identity of the abducted daughter had not been confirmed.
Following a distress call, the Area Commander reportedly led a team of police officers to the scene to assess the situation and begin security operations.
Murtala’s body was evacuated to the General Hospital, Kutigi, where it was deposited for an autopsy.
Security agencies have since launched efforts to locate the attackers and secure the release of the kidnapped victims.
According to police sources, operatives have intensified patrols and intelligence-gathering activities in and around the affected community as investigations into the attack continue.
The incident adds to ongoing security concerns in parts of Niger State, where communities have experienced repeated attacks involving armed groups, kidnappings and other violent crimes in recent years.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing any information that could assist ongoing investigations or aid efforts to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
