Human rights lawyer and activist Maxwell Opara has criticized Senator Adams Oshiomhole for questioning the governance record of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.
Speaking in an interview published on the official SYMFONI YouTube channel on Monday, July 6, 2026, Opara defended Obi’s economic management, saying, “Oshiomhole has the audacity to talk about someone who left office with a huge amount of money and without any debt in Anambra State.”
Opara argued that politicians with questionable legacies should not criticize leaders whose financial prudence in office is widely acknowledged. He said the practice of leaving states burdened with heavy debts and empty treasuries has hindered socio-economic development across Nigeria.
He added that voters are becoming more informed and can verify financial records, making it difficult to rewrite the achievements of past administrations. Opara urged politicians to focus on presenting practical development plans instead of personal attacks.
He concluded that public accountability and proven fiscal responsibility should remain key criteria for assessing political leaders ahead of future elections.
