Oyo: I Would Not Want to Say the Government Is Not Telling the Truth, but If I Were Them, I Would Still Doubt — Retired Gen. John Enenche

Retired Major General John Enenche says limited communication between the government and the public has contributed to growing scepticism over security operations in Nigeria.

Speaking on Channels Television on July 13, 2026, Enenche reacted to public doubts surrounding the rescue of abducted pupils and teachers from Community High School, Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

“I would not want to say that the government is not saying the truth, but actually if I were them, I will still doubt because over time, as I speak with you, there are some happenings out there, but it’s because they are not privileged to be communicated to people,” he said.

Enenche explained that security agencies often conduct operations that cannot be disclosed immediately for strategic reasons. However, he said the lack of timely public communication has created room for suspicion and misinformation.

He urged the government to improve its communication strategy by providing citizens with more information about security operations whenever possible without compromising national security.
