The House of Representatives has constituted an ad hoc committee to investigate how the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) secured more than ₦1.3 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Act despite the Federal Government maintaining that the agency was never legally established.
According to Channels Television, the committee, chaired by Yusuf Gagdi of Plateau State, is examining how the council was included in the budget. Lawmakers noted that the House Committee on Special Duties is responsible for overseeing engagements between State House agencies and the National Assembly during budget defence.
Commenting on the controversy, Clement Jimbo argued that Adeyemi Adeniyi Matthew, who has been described as a “con artist,” could not have acted alone. He alleged that the suspect must have received assistance from individuals within government to navigate official procedures, including opening a Central Bank account, requesting staff from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service, and having the council included in the budget proposal.
“Nobody can convince me that this young man… was working independently,” Jimbo said, adding that Nigerians deserve to know who else may have been involved. The House committee is expected to submit its findings after completing its investigation.
