Police arrest two suspected cultists in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists and recovered a firearm in Ondo town.

Operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Akure, acting on credible intelligence supplied by the Ondo End Miscreant Group, arrested the suspects on April 11, 2026.

Police preliminary findings showed that the suspects belong to the Eiye and Aiye confraternities, groups linked to violent clashes in parts of the state.

They were also connected to a cult-related clash on April 9, 2026, within the premises of Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, where rival factions reportedly engaged in a confrontation that disrupted public peace.

The suspects, identified as Nnamdi Sunday and Adegbuyi Seyi, were said to have cooperated with investigators and subsequently led operatives to a suspected Aiye cult hideout at the Oka Garage area of Ondo town.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, believed to have been used for criminal activities.

The police said the suspects will remain in custody as investigations continue to track other fleeing members and recover additional arms.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, reaffirmed the command’s determination to rid the state of cultism and other criminal activities, stressing that offenders would be brought to justice.

He commended the Ondo End Miscreant Group for timely intelligence and urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with useful information.

Lawal also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji lDisu, for what he described as consistent support and leadership that have strengthened the command’s operations.

The command restated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, calling on members of the public to report suspicious movements promptly.
