A grocery trader, Oluwadamilola Adisa, has alleged that the Ogun State Police Command released a suspect accused of trespassing on her late father’s property after he reportedly claimed to be ill, despite allegedly threatening to kill members of her family while in police custody.
Adisa made the allegation during an interview published by Punch Newspaper on Sunday, July 26, 2026, where she recounted her family’s ongoing dispute over their late father’s property and expressed concerns about how the case has been handled by law enforcement authorities.
According to Adisa, the suspect was arrested after workers allegedly invaded the family’s land. She said her family believed the arrest would lead to prosecution and that the matter would be resolved through the courts.
However, she claimed those expectations were dashed when the suspect was released without prior notice to her family, despite what she described as earlier assurances from the police that legal proceedings would follow.
Adisa said she and her family only learned of the suspect’s release after the decision had already been made.
According to her, they immediately sought an explanation from the police, questioning why the complainants had not been informed before the suspect was released.
“We asked why he was released without informing us. They said he was sick and they didn’t want him to die in their custody. We reminded them that we lodged the complaint and should have been informed before his release, but nothing happened. The man threatened to kill us in the presence of the police on Thursday, yet they freed him,” she said.
Adisa alleged that the suspect had openly threatened to kill members of her family while police officers were present, making his subsequent release even more troubling for them.
She said the development heightened the family’s fears and left them feeling vulnerable despite choosing to report the matter through official channels and cooperate with investigators.
According to Adisa, the family’s confidence in the investigation has been shaken, as they believe the release of the suspect has complicated efforts to obtain justice.
She expressed concern that those responsible for the alleged actions had not been held accountable, adding that the situation has created uncertainty about the direction of the investigation.
The grocery trader also recounted another incident involving the police, alleging that officers later attempted to take her into custody.
