The Gombe State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a 28-year-old student of the Federal University, Kashere, whose body was discovered in a stagnant body of water in Akko Local Government Area of the state.
According to an official security report published by Punch Newspapers on July 25, 2026, the deceased has been identified as Enoch Sunday Maisamari.
Police said Maisamari was found unresponsive in a body of stagnant water in Sabon Garin Yero Village, located in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Gombe State Command, Buhari Abdullahi, said officers received a report of the discovery at about 9:30 a.m.
Following the report, police personnel were deployed to the scene, where they recovered the victim and transported him to the General Hospital, Kashere.
Medical personnel at the hospital later confirmed that Maisamari had died.
According to the police spokesperson, preliminary medical examinations found no visible signs of physical violence on the student’s body.
Despite the initial findings, the command said it has commenced a full investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
Abdullahi stated that investigators are carrying out comprehensive inquiries to determine what led to the incident and whether any other factors may have contributed to the student’s death.
The police also appealed to residents and members of the Federal University, Kashere community to remain calm and allow investigators to complete their work.
Authorities said further information would be made available as the investigation progresses.
The death of the 28-year-old student has drawn attention within the university community as police continue efforts to determine the cause of the incident.
