According to Channels Television on Friday, July 3, 2026, President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian media organisations to avoid becoming platforms for terrorists and kidnappers, stressing the importance of responsible journalism in protecting national security.
Speaking at the inaugural State House Media Dinner in Abuja, Tinubu described the media as a key partner in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity and called for closer collaboration between the press and government.
“The media must resist the temptation of becoming megaphones for terrorists and kidnappers. We must protect our nation,” the President said.
Tinubu acknowledged recent military successes against banditry and kidnapping, adding that the government and the media are partners in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy rather than adversaries.
He also cautioned journalists against sensational reporting, urging them to prioritise accuracy and factual reporting to prevent unnecessary public panic and tension. The President said responsible journalism and sustained cooperation between the government and the media are essential to maintaining peace, security and national development.
