There have been several reactions from the general public and particularly social media users after the former governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi made a remarkable comment regarding the passage of the state police bill by the national assembly.

According to the statements which were shared on his official X account on Friday June 26th, 2026 he pointed out that while the step was commendable, the disorderly manner employed by the national assembly raised serious concerns.

The state police bill, it can be recalled, had triggered massive public debate, with many arguing that the APC administration was seeking grounds to create a lawful militia for APC governors before the 2027 elections.

The former Anambra State governor in his remarks, admitted that the people had long clamored for the creation of state police, hence, the national assembly must be transparent.

The process, according to the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, must involve greater community participation, as the opinions of the people must be considered.

He warned that failure to employ due process might invite public unrest. He concluded by advising the national assembly to defer the process till after the 2027 elections.
