Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has recounted what he described as a failed attempt to blackmail him with allegations involving his son and an alleged $2 million payment.
Speaking during a media parley in a video shared by TVC, Wike defended the integrity of President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, amid allegations surrounding a purported fake government agency.
Wike said the accuser claimed he met one of his sons, who allegedly called him to ask if land was available. According to the allegation, Wike replied in the affirmative before the individual handed over $2 million. “There was a day that he was with my son, and that my son called, ‘Dad, is there any land available?’ And I said yes, and that they gave him 2 million US dollars,” Wike quoted the allegation.
The minister said he immediately directed his Chief Security Officer to have the suspect arrested. He added that investigations, including British Airways travel records, showed his son was travelling at the time the alleged payment was said to have occurred, exposing what he described as inconsistencies in the claim.
Wike said he rejected advice to quietly settle the matter, insisting he had done nothing wrong and would not succumb to blackmail.
