Team Nigeria trio qualify for Men’s 400m Semi-finals at African Athletics Championships

Nigerian sprinters Emmanuel Ojeli, Adewale Sikiru, and Samson Nathaniel have secured their spots in the semi-finals of the men’s 400m at the 24th African Senior Athletics Championships (ASAC) in Accra, Ghana.
 

The trio advanced after strong performances in their respective heats on the opening day of competition at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.
 

Qualifying Times: Emmanuel Ojeli: 45.64s, Adewale Sikiru: 46.25s, Samson Nathaniel: 46.67s

The semi-finals are scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, at 17:50 GMT, with the athletes aiming to secure a place in Thursday’s final.

In other events for Team Nigeria, Emmanuel Audu made his senior debut in the men’s Shot Put final. Audu delivered a commendable performance, finishing in fifth place. The event was won by South Africa’s Aiden Smith, who claimed the first gold medal of the championships with a throw of 20.01m.

Nigeria has already found success on the field, with Divine Oladipo and Obiageri Amaechi securing silver and bronze respectively in the women’s Discus throw, while Tobi Amusan cruised to the 100m hurdles final with a time of 12.82s.
