Security analyst Obafemi George has claimed that the United States described weapons and equipment recovered from terrorists after a joint Nigerian-US military operation in Borno State as the largest such haul since the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Speaking in an interview with TVC, George also referenced a military strike carried out on December 25 in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, which he said eliminated numerous terrorists.
He added that during a more recent operation in Borno about three weeks earlier, US officials reportedly confirmed that the recovered terrorist equipment was the most significant seizure they had seen since 9/11.
“These are not minor accomplishments,” George said, describing the operations as major milestones in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
He urged Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation, to acknowledge what he described as the administration’s security achievements, arguing that the operations should boost public confidence and change perceptions of the country’s counterterrorism efforts. George also said the international community was increasingly recognizing Nigeria’s progress in addressing security challenges.
