Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ebonyi State, Ifeanyi Odii, has pledged to serve only one term if elected governor, saying his priority is delivering effective governance rather than remaining in office beyond four years.
According to Daily Post on Sunday, July 5, 2026, Odii made the commitment during a media parley in Lagos, where he said he had already developed a clear agenda focused on economic growth, improved public services and better opportunities for Ebonyi residents.
He argued that Nigerian politics is increasingly driven by candidates’ competence and credibility rather than party affiliation, adding that his campaign has attracted support from people across political divides. Odii also claimed the growing support for his candidacy has unsettled the APC-led government in the state.
Addressing the issue of zoning, Odii said competence, not political arrangements, should determine Ebonyi’s next governor. He maintained that there has never been a formally documented zoning agreement in the state’s political history and urged voters to move beyond clannish politics.
“There will not be a zoning issue anymore because our people are very civilised today. We know clannish politics is one of the things that has actually kept us from developing,” he said.
