Atiku Challenges Obasanjo Over Na’Abba Bribery Allegation
African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has dismissed former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s allegation that he bribed the late Ghali Umar Na’Abba to impeach him, describing the claim as politically motivated ahead of the 2027 election. In a statement by his spokesman, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku urged Obasanjo to openly endorse his preferred candidate rather than rely on allegations that could no longer be verified. He also questioned why the claim surfaced only after Na’Abba’s death and argued that no official action was ever taken despite Obasanjo leading the government at the time. Atiku further linked the dispute to his opposition to Obasanjo’s third-term bid.
Bangladesh President Resigns
Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned on Friday, citing worsening physical and mental health before the end of his term in 2028. In a resignation letter seen by AFP, the 76-year-old said he could no longer discharge the duties of the office. Shahabuddin, elected in 2023 with support from Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League, faced mounting pressure after Hasina’s removal in 2024.
NDA Warns Kaduna Residents of Explosive Blasts
The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) announced it will conduct an inter-company obstacle crossing exercise for Short Service Cadets at its Afaka facility on Saturday between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. The exercise will involve explosive blasts, prompting the academy to advise residents of Mando, Tsamiya, Kauya and Afaka not to panic. The NDA said all necessary safety measures had been put in place.

Anambra First Lady Dr. Nonye Soludo has called on women attending this year’s August Meeting to confront the rising abuse of domestic workers, particularly minors. In a message marking the start of the annual gathering, she urged participants to expand discussions beyond community development to include solutions to social and moral challenges affecting families. She stressed that domestic workers deserve dignity, compassion and protection, warning that violence and neglect against vulnerable children must not be tolerated.
