Atiku Urges FG to Ensure Safety of Obi, El-Rufai
African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has urged the Federal Government to guarantee the safety of opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai. In a statement by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the treatment of opposition leaders is a measure of Nigeria’s democratic credentials and criticised the Presidency’s response to Obi’s concerns about his safety, calling for restraint and responsible engagement.
FCT Workers Dislike Me Over Spending Reforms – Wike
Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike said many civil servants are unhappy with his administration because it has redirected spending from foreign trips and conferences to infrastructure projects. Speaking at his monthly media briefing in Abuja, Wike said he would not approve costly overseas travel that offers little public value, insisting government resources should be invested in roads and other capital projects.
Senate Approves ₦404bn Police Trust Fund Budgets
The Senate has approved a combined ₦404.07 billion budget for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, comprising ₦170.10 billion for 2025 and ₦233.96 billion for 2026. The approval followed the adoption of a report presented by the Senate Committee on Police Affairs. Lawmakers said implementation of the 2025 budget was delayed by legal issues surrounding proposed amendments to the Nigeria Police Trust Fund Act, while describing the fund as critical to addressing funding gaps within the Nigeria Police Force.
