Trump’s Letter to BAT: There Is a Total Contradiction Between the Commendation — Dr. Getso

Dr. Yahuza Getso, a security analyst and former Minister of Youth and Sports, has argued that recent praise reportedly conveyed by U.S. President Donald Trump for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts against terrorism does not reflect Nigeria’s current security realities.

Speaking in an interview aired on the official Trust TV YouTube channel on Friday, July 24, 2026, Getso congratulated Tinubu on receiving what he described as a “wonderful letter” from Trump but said, “there is a contradiction, a total contradiction between the commendation.”

He cited recent killings in Zamfara and continued attacks in Katsina, Sokoto and Niger states as evidence that insecurity remains widespread despite ongoing military operations. While commending the efforts of security agencies, he said he continued to receive distress calls from affected communities.

Getso also argued that many criminal groups operate from known locations, saying, “all these guys are known; their locations are not something difficult to reach.” He warned of increasing collaboration between local bandits and foreign armed elements, describing it as “a very, very dangerous signal.”

He welcomed plans to expand military formations and recruit more personnel but stressed that tackling corruption, accountability, personnel welfare and responsible leadership was essential to improving Nigeria’s security situation.
