Two U.S. service members were killed and another remains missing after American and partner forces defended against an Iranian ballistic missile and drone attack, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed.
According to The Times of Israel on July 18, 2026, the incident occurred in Jordan on July 17 during a defensive operation against the assault.
“Two US service members were killed in action in Jordan on July 17 as US and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks,” CENTCOM said in a post on X.
CENTCOM said four additional service members were injured and evacuated to hospitals in Jordan, where they received treatment before being discharged. Other personnel treated for minor injuries have since returned to duty.
The command added that one service member remains missing and said further information would be released as it becomes available.
The incident marks a significant escalation in regional tensions as U.S. forces continue to operate alongside partner nations in the Middle East amid growing security challenges. Authorities are continuing efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the missing service member and the broader operation.
