The United States has reportedly carried out a cruise missile strike on a strategic railway bridge in northern Iran, marking the second consecutive day of renewed military operations amid escalating tensions with Tehran.
According to Anadolu Agency on July 9, 2026, citing Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency, the attack targeted the Ogtay Khan railway bridge in Golestan Province. The bridge is part of an international rail corridor linking Iran with Turkmenistan, China and Russia and is a key route for regional trade and freight transportation.
Iranian authorities said the bridge was damaged but did not immediately disclose the extent of the destruction or report any casualties. Passenger rail services between Tehran and Mashhad were suspended, with stranded travelers transported by road while engineers began repair work.
The strike follows renewed US military operations aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to threaten shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy route. Washington has accused Tehran of attacking commercial vessels, an allegation Iran denies, insisting it has the right to regulate navigation in its territorial waters.
The escalation comes after the collapse of a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire framework reached on June 17, with both countries exchanging fresh military strikes and raising concerns about a broader regional conflict.
