Austin Okai, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed confidence in the party’s prospects for the 2027 presidential election, claiming public sentiment in Northern Nigeria already favours the opposition.
Speaking in an interview aired on the Arise News YouTube channel on Thursday, July 2, 2026, Okai said the ADC remained optimistic despite not having officially launched its campaign.
“We haven’t even kicked off our campaign yet, but the North has already determined who the next president will be in 2027,” he said.
Okai argued that growing dissatisfaction with the current administration over economic hardship, insecurity and governance challenges has influenced political opinion, particularly in the North. He added that the party believes its choice of candidates will strengthen its appeal across the country.
The ADC chieftain said the party plans to expand its support base in the South-West and South-South as part of its preparations for the election. He added that the opposition would intensify grassroots mobilisation once its official campaign begins, while presenting its policies as a credible alternative to voters.
