Political activist Idris Zekeri has said security challenges in Edo State have persisted under different administrations, arguing that public safety should be the primary measure of any government’s performance.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Zekeri said communities across the state have experienced varying security threats over the years, with the continued insecurity affecting public confidence, economic activity and investment.
Reflecting on the tenure of former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Zekeri said, “When Adams Oshiomhole was governor, there were many more robberies in Auchi, where I come from.”
He maintained that security should not be treated as a partisan issue, stressing that every administration has a responsibility to protect lives and property. Zekeri called for greater investment in policing, community-based security initiatives and intelligence gathering, adding that stronger collaboration between authorities and local communities is essential to tackling emerging security threats.
He also said improving security would encourage investment, stimulate economic growth and enhance the quality of life for residents.
