Nigerian Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has reacted to the rescue of abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, comparing the response of Nigerian celebrities with that of some American public figures during the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel.
In a post on his X account, Omokri said some Nigerian celebrities who had criticised the government’s handling of the abduction, including singer Davido, had not publicly reacted following the reported rescue of the victims.
“Please fact-check me: When Hamas abducted American, Canadian, British and other Western children on Saturday, October 7, 2023, Beyoncé and other American celebrities wisely refused to speak out in public about the event,” he wrote.
Omokri further claimed that Beyoncé later celebrated the release of the surviving children and invited some of them to her concerts.
He concluded by urging public figures to remain consistent in their responses to national tragedies and positive developments, writing, “May we not be loud when politicising evil and quiet when others are publicising good!”
Omokri’s comments have sparked debate on social media. His assertions regarding Beyoncé and other celebrities reflect his personal claims and were presented without independent verification.
