Veteran actress and filmmaker Uche Jombo says film production has given her the deepest understanding of Nollywood’s business operations, describing the role as one that requires creativity, leadership, financial discipline and strategic planning.
Speaking in comments reported by The Punch on Saturday, July 4, 2026, Jombo said producers oversee every stage of a film’s journey, from development to release. “When you produce a film, you’re involved in every single aspect of bringing a story to life,” she said, noting that producers handle budgeting, investor relations, distribution, marketing, cast and crew coordination, and project management.
Jombo explained that while actors focus on their performances, producers are responsible for ensuring films are completed successfully and positioned for commercial success by balancing creative goals with financial realities.
She added that working behind the scenes has highlighted Nollywood’s role as a business ecosystem that creates jobs, attracts investment and contributes to Nigeria’s economy. Jombo also called for stronger business infrastructure, higher professional standards and a more sustainable environment to help the industry remain globally competitive and support filmmakers in producing high-quality content.
