Chelsea are set to complete the signing of Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria, with the defender reportedly in London undergoing a medical ahead of an official announcement, according to a Football365 report published on Monday, August 3, 2026.
The 27-year-old is expected to replace Marc Cucurella, who recently joined Real Madrid in a deal reportedly worth around €60 million. Spanish outlet Marca reported that Chelsea and Rayo Vallecano have agreed on a transfer worth €25 million plus performance-related bonuses, despite Chavarria having a €50 million release clause. The move would also represent the biggest transfer sale in Rayo Vallecano’s history.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano previously disclosed that Chelsea had submitted an improved offer as negotiations progressed and later suggested the deal was nearing completion with a “soon” post on social media.
If finalized, Chavarria will become Chelsea’s 10th signing of the summer, joining Danny Welbeck, Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda, Emmanuel Emegha, Denner and Dastan Satpaev, while Jordan Henderson has already completed his medical.
Chelsea’s transfer activity has attracted criticism, particularly over the reported £117 million signing of Morgan Rogers. However, the club remain focused on strengthening the squad after finishing 10th in the Premier League last season under new manager Xabi Alonso.
