Oladimeji Fabiyi, the Deputy National Financial Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to ensure opposition parties are allowed to participate freely in the 2027 general election.
According to a video published on Trust TV’s official YouTube channel on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Fabiyi made the appeal while discussing the ADC’s ongoing legal challenges.
He urged the Federal Government to create an environment that allows opposition parties to organise, campaign and present candidates without undue interference, arguing that competitive elections strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
“We are begging Mr. President to allow all the opposition parties to breathe and participate in the 2027 election,” Fabiyi said.
He maintained that healthy political competition gives Nigerians a wider range of choices and should be protected within the country’s constitutional and electoral framework.
Fabiyi also argued that ongoing legal disputes involving opposition parties should not disrupt preparations for the 2027 elections, saying political organisations should be allowed to continue their activities while the courts determine outstanding cases through due process.
He further called on relevant institutions to uphold democratic principles and ensure political disagreements are resolved in accordance with the law.
Fabiyi expressed confidence that the ADC would continue participating in Nigeria’s political process despite its legal challenges and reiterated that the country’s democracy would be strengthened when all political parties are able to compete on an equal legal footing.
