Peter Obi: “We Gave Our Platform To Them On A Platter, Without Any Discussion Of Money.”— Dickson

Senator Seriake Dickson, national leader of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), has dismissed allegations that party tickets were commercialised during the recently concluded primary elections.

Speaking during an interview aired on Arise News on June 10, 2026, Dickson addressed claims surrounding the entry of prominent politicians, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, into the opposition platform.

According to the former Bayelsa State governor, the party attracted influential political figures because of its ideals and leadership, not financial arrangements.

“We gave our platform to them on a platter, without any discussion of money,” Dickson said during the broadcast.

He argued that the rapid growth of the NDC reflects the desire of many Nigerians for political change rather than the influence of wealthy individuals seeking to acquire party structures.

Dickson also acknowledged challenges encountered during the party’s primary elections, attributing them to the implementation of compulsory direct primaries under existing electoral regulations. However, he maintained that the party’s internal structures remained intact despite the difficulties.

The senator urged aggrieved aspirants to remain patient and avoid making allegations that could undermine ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party.

He further stated that the organisation is funded through legitimate donations paid into official campaign accounts and not through improper financial arrangements.

Dickson assured party members and supporters that transparency, consultation, and institutional accountability remain central to the party’s operations.

He expressed confidence that the NDC would emerge as a strong contender against the ruling party in the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that the party’s growth is being driven by public support and shared political objectives rather than monetary inducements.
