According to residents, the deceased was discovered lifeless in a pool of blood, with indications that he was attacked while sleeping at night.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Nafiu Habib, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, June 13, 2026 said that preliminary investigations had commenced.
Habib stated that the case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation.
“The Bauchi State Police Command is investigating a suspected case of m8rder involving one Aminu Najamu, 33-year-old, male, of Kobi Street, Gwallaga, Bauchi LGA,” the statement read.
“According to reports, the deceased entered his room on 7th June 2026 and was found d3ad on 9th June 2026.

“The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation.
“Operatives of the SCID have since taken over the matter and commenced in-depth investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the d3ath and to identify and apprehend all persons connected with the crime.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+), has assured members of the public that the Command will leave no stone unturned until justice is served.
“He urged anyone with useful information that could assist the investigation to report promptly to the nearest police station or to the investigating team.

Meanwhile, the team lead of the Organisation for African Child Development and Human Rights Protection, Barr. Alkasim Muhammad, has criticised the alleged silence of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) days after the m8rder.
He alleged that as of June 10, 2026, the DPO had not invited or arrested any suspect in connection with the k!lling.
It also questioned the handling of the case at the divisional level.
“Why did the DPO so quickly release the deceased’s body for burial within three hours without proper investigation? Why was the case not transferred to the State CID for further investigation, given the nature of the crime? Why has the police failed to revisit the crime scene for evidence gathering?,” the group queried.
The group organisation called on the Commissioner of Police to set up a special investigative team to thoroughly investigate the case.
It also demanded the exhumation of the victim’s body for autopsy, the immediate arrest of suspects for interrogation, and the replacement of the DPO within 24 hours, alleging possible compromise in the investigation.
It further urged the constitution of a panel to review the officer’s handling of the case.
