Mother of deceased man speaks out after daughter-in-law accuses father-in-law of seizing matrimonial home (video)

The mother of the late Ahmed has broken her silence following viral allegations made by her daughter-in-law, Tosin Omolola, who recently claimed that her husband’s family began harassing her just eight days after his demise.

In a video recording sent to LIB, the grieving mother strongly denied claims that a widely circulated video showing her husband, 62-year-old Omolola David, locking a building gate was an attempt to lock Tosin out of her matrimonial home.

Speaking in Yoruba, the deceased’s mother clarified that the trending footage is not recent, nor does it feature the property left behind by her late son. Instead, she stated that the video was recorded two years ago, in 2024, at their own family residence.

Providing context to the altercation, the mother alleged that the family had previously intervened during her son’s illness due to a lack of proper care from his wife.

“Shortly after Ahmed fell ill, my husband and I decided to bring him and our grandchildren to our home because Tosin wasn’t taking good care of him,” she claimed.

According to the mother, Tosin subsequently stormed the family residence to create a scene. She alleged that her husband, Omolola David, locked the estate gates solely to prevent the escalation of the drama, which was the exact moment captured in the viral video.

The development adds a new layer to the unfolding dispute, which has already drawn attention from local human rights activists and the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA). 

The family dispute has escalated into a legal matter, following public intervention by human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who first brought Tosin’s plight to light. Subsequently, the Lagos State Police Command arrested Tosin’s 62-year-old father-in-law, Omolola David. 

On Friday, July 31, David was arraigned before a Lagos State Magistrate Court on a two-count charge bordering on threat to life and assault against his daughter-in-law. While the court granted him bail, he remains in police custody after failing to meet his bail conditions. He is expected to regain his freedom next week upon perfecting his bail requirements.
