Popular Nigerian musician African China has recounted a traumatic experience from his early days in Lagos when he sold bread for a living, revealing that he once unknowingly stepped on a decomposing corpse at Orile Bus Stop.
Speaking during an interview with Yanga FM Nigeria, the veteran singer, whose real name is Chinagorom Onuoha, said the incident occurred while he was on an errand to buy bread.
According to him, he was crossing from Sari to Iganmu at Orile Bus Stop when he jumped over the pavement separating both areas and landed on what he later discovered was a swollen corpse.
African China said the shocking encounter left him terrified. Realising what had happened, he immediately ran across the road, while bystanders helped wash his leg with soap and water.
“That pavement which divides Sari and Iganmu at Orile Bus Stop, I did not know there was a corpse there and it had swollen. As I jumped over the pavement, I stepped on the corpse and it burst. I immediately ran across the road and people poured water and soap on my leg. That thing gave me trauma,” he said.
The musician added that the experience stayed with him for years and later inspired one of his hit songs.
