According to Metro Sport, Rio Ferdinand has urged Manchester United to move quickly for Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni if he becomes available this summer.
United have already agreed a £35 million deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson but continue to target further reinforcements. Their plans have been complicated by Nottingham Forest’s acceptance of Manchester City’s reported £116 million bid for Elliot Anderson, while Tottenham are said to be leading the race for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
With uncertainty surrounding Tchouaméni’s future at Real Madrid following reported tensions with Federico Valverde last season, Spanish reports suggest the club could consider offers of around £70 million as José Mourinho reshapes his squad.
“My biggest thing about it is, are United going to get Tchouameni?” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel. “He’d be one of the first midfielders on my list if we’re looking to replace Casemiro.”
He added that United should act immediately if the France international becomes available, saying, “If there’s even a hint he could leave, Manchester United have to be the first club there.”
United are also monitoring Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, with Gary Pallister describing Tonali as an “ideal signing.”
