Chief Peter Ameh, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has defended the financial integrity of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, saying his wealth predates his political career.
Speaking during an interview on the SYMFONI YouTube channel on June 26, 2026, Ameh argued that Obi’s financial success before entering politics shows he is not motivated by personal enrichment through public office.
“Money does not move Peter Obi because if money moved him, he would not have been rich before the age of thirty when he was already wealthy,” Ameh said.
He maintained that individuals who achieve financial success through legitimate private enterprise before joining politics are less likely to view public office as a means of accumulating wealth. According to him, Obi’s business background reflects a commitment to public service rather than personal financial gain.
Ameh also urged Nigerians to prioritise integrity, transparency and accountability when assessing political leaders, arguing that a candidate’s financial and professional record before entering politics offers insight into how public resources may be managed. He added that the NDC is committed to promoting leaders with proven competence, fiscal responsibility and transparent governance.
