Cooking Gas Price Drops to N1,500 per Kilogram, Bringing Relief to Nigerians

The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, has fallen to N1,500 per kilogram from about N2,200 per kilogram, a 31.8% reduction that is expected to ease household costs across Nigeria.

According to the Daily Sun, the President of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM), Edu Inyang, attributed the price drop to weeks of consultations between marketers, regulators and government agencies aimed at improving supply and stabilising the market.

Inyang said average daily LPG supply increased from 4,262 metric tonnes in May 2026 to about 5,040 metric tonnes in June, while national stock levels rose from approximately 11 days to 22 days following engagements with producers, terminal operators and marketers. He added that additional LPG cargoes have improved product availability nationwide.

The Federal Government also intensified efforts against the diversion, hoarding and illegal storage of cooking gas to ensure fair distribution.

Inyang said prices could decline further if supply remains strong, the foreign exchange market stays stable and logistics costs fall. NALPGAM projects LPG prices could reach between N900 and N1,100 per kilogram before the end of 2026 if current reforms are sustained.
