“They’re Fighting After Rigging Themselves 1, 2, 100. How Can You Hold Primaries in the Bush?” — Okoro

Dr. Maduka Okoro, Convener of the Greater Abia Project (GAP), has criticized the state of opposition politics in Abia State, alleging that internal crises and flawed party processes have weakened several political parties.

Speaking on the political situation in the state, Okoro said that, apart from the Labour Party under Governor Alex Otti, other parties are struggling to function effectively and provide credible opposition.

“This is the problem we are having in Abia State. All these political parties, except the Labour Party being run by Alex Otti, are not functioning properly. We are waiting for other groups to come and challenge him so we can enjoy the politics,” he said.

Okoro further alleged that opposition parties were consumed by internal disputes after manipulating their own processes. “They are busy fighting after manipulating their own processes. Which primaries? How can you conduct primaries in the bush?” he said.

He added that opposition parties, in their current state, stand little chance of defeating Governor Otti, citing deep divisions and a lack of unity. Okoro called for stronger party structures, issue-based politics, and meaningful reforms to improve democratic competition in the state.
