A student rescued after gunmen attacked candidates travelling to sit for the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination in Borno State says the ordeal has left him too traumatised to return to school.
According to a report by Trust TV on Friday, July 3, 2026, Wadiem Bitrus said he sustained injuries during the attack and witnessed several classmates being abducted.
“I was injured during the attack and I don’t want to go back to school because I’m afraid. I saw my friends Rebecca, Martha, Victoria, Lydia, Waziri and several other girls being taken away,” Bitrus said during an interview.
He said the incident has had a lasting psychological impact, leaving him fearful for his safety and unable to imagine resuming his education. Bitrus added that witnessing the abduction of classmates, including Rebecca, Martha, Victoria, Lydia and Waziri, remains the most distressing part of the attack.
He also expressed hope that the abducted students would be rescued safely.
