Dickson Iroegbu, a House of Representatives aspirant under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has said he believes former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi would honour a pledge to serve only one term if elected president.
Speaking on Mic On Podcast on Saturday, July 4, 2026, Iroegbu recalled a conversation with Obi, saying, “Peter Obi said, ‘He is going to do one term,’ and I replied, ‘I believe him.'”
Iroegbu said trust and credibility are essential in politics, arguing that leaders should remain consistent with the commitments they make to the public. According to him, Nigerians increasingly value politicians whose actions match their promises.
The NDC chieftain also stressed that Nigeria’s democratic progress depends on transparency, accountability and leaders earning the confidence of the electorate.
He urged political actors to focus on policies, national development and service delivery, expressing hope that campaigns ahead of the 2027 general election would place greater emphasis on credibility and governance.
