African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has responded after a man warned him against wearing his trademark beret while campaigning in Edo State.
In a video circulating online, the man, who claimed to be speaking on behalf of the Edo State governor, said anyone wearing a beret and identifying as a “freedom fighter” during political campaigns in the state would be beaten, handed over to the police and taken before a special court.
Reacting in a post on his verified X account on July 7, 2026, Sowore condemned the remarks and declared that he would not be intimidated.
“I watched the threats and appalling broadcast made by a character claiming to speak for the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo. My response is simple; we are prepared, fully ready and determined to begin the revolution from Edo State,” Sowore wrote.
The exchange has generated reactions on social media amid ongoing political activities ahead of future elections. There has been no official confirmation that the individual who made the remarks was speaking on behalf of the Edo State Government or Governor Monday Okpebholo.
