Hajiya Asia El-Rufai says the bail conditions granted to her husband, Nasir El-Rufai, have prevented his release from detention despite a favourable court ruling.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Asia El-Rufai said a Federal High Court granted bail but required two sureties, each with assets worth N200 million, properties valued at N200 million in Kaduna’s Government Reserved Area (GRA), and attestation from the Kaduna State Traditional Council.
She said the family was unable to meet the conditions after the traditional council declined to provide the required attestation, making it impossible to complete the bail process.
Asia argued that the charges against her husband are bailable and described his continued detention as unfair. She added that El-Rufai had previously sought bail at the High Court without success before obtaining bail from the Federal High Court under what she called unrealistic conditions.
She also expressed concern that her husband’s constitutional rights, including the rights to life, healthcare and freedom of association, were being undermined.
