A witness has recounted the events surrounding a fatal confrontation in Ibadan that allegedly began over a failed point-of-sale (POS) transaction and escalated into deadly violence.
According to TVC News, the witness said the victim visited a POS stand to make a cash withdrawal, but network delays initially led the agent to believe the transaction had failed. The agent later discovered the funds had been successfully received and allegedly transferred by the customer.
The witness claimed the agent mobilised a group of people who confronted the man and fatally stabbed him, despite his reported attempt to return the money to settle the dispute.
The witness also alleged that the situation deteriorated into a violent clash involving youths, during which an armed individual believed to be a security operative fired shots into the crowd. “The man called policeman, maybe soldier, armed with AK-47, wore blue jalabiya, went to them,” the witness said.
Authorities have not officially confirmed the witness’s account or the identity of the armed individual, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
