In a recent interview with The Sun on, Christopher Ogbonnaya Enweremadu shared his perspective on the upcoming 2027 presidential election, emphasizing the careful considerations he applies as a political leader when guiding his community.
Enweremadu explained that leadership carries significant responsibility, requiring one to weigh both the advantages and potential risks of any political endorsement. He stressed that supporting a candidate unlikely to succeed could have negative consequences for the people he leads, as political decisions directly influence governance outcomes and community development.
According to Enweremadu, the decision to back a particular candidate cannot be based solely on ethnicity, personal preference, or sentiment. Instead, leaders must make realistic assessments about who has the capacity and the likelihood to win, ensuring that their guidance results in tangible benefits for their constituents.
Regarding the 2027 presidential election, Enweremadu expressed skepticism about Peter Obi, an Igbo leader who has declared his intention to contest. He stated that he does not see Obi as a viable candidate capable of winning the election. “Well, first of all, I am a political actor and being a political actor, I look at the pros and cons before I lead my people to anywhere I am going to. In Peter Obi I see an Igbo man who is going to lose in 2027, and I’m not going to lead my people to follow that man,” Enweremadu said.
He elaborated that guiding people toward a candidate likely to lose would be irresponsible, as it could leave the community disadvantaged and prevent them from benefiting from governance and development initiatives. Enweremadu highlighted that political decision-making is strategic, requiring leaders to prioritize outcomes over sentiment, and that steering followers toward a winning candidate is an essential part of responsible leadership.
