Peter Obi Explains Why He Sued Former Spokesman Kenneth Okonkwo, Says He Holds No Grudge

Former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has said he bears no personal resentment toward his former spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo, despite their ongoing legal dispute.

Obi made the remarks in a video shared on the official Channels TV YouTube channel on Sunday, July 26, 2026, while responding to a question about whether he intended to forgive Okonkwo.

According to Obi, the disagreement is not rooted in personal hostility but in comments allegedly made by Okonkwo suggesting he had damaging information to disclose about him. Obi said those statements prompted him to seek legal action.

“I don’t have any issue with Kenneth Okonkwo. I sued him because he said he has some things to say about me. He said they are worse and I’m suing him to say those things,” Obi said.

His comments have sparked fresh debate on social media, with many discussing the strained relationship between the two men. Although Obi maintained there is no personal conflict, the lawsuit has renewed public attention on the breakdown of what was once a close political alliance.
