Labour Party chieftain Abayomi Arabambi has said Abia State Governor Alex Otti has not done enough to merit being described as the party’s national leader.
Speaking during an interview on SYMFONI TV, Arabambi addressed the Labour Party’s leadership crisis, arguing that the party has established constitutional procedures for recognising its leaders.
“Alex Otti has done nothing to deserve the title of national leader,” Arabambi said, insisting that Otti’s election as governor does not automatically confer leadership of the party at the national level.
He further alleged that those promoting Otti as the Labour Party’s national leader were acting outside the party’s constitutional framework, maintaining that such claims have no legal basis.
Arabambi said leadership within the party must be determined through its constitution and recognised organs rather than public opinion or political influence. He added that his faction would continue to recognise the leadership of Julius Abure until a court or other lawful process rules otherwise, urging that internal disputes be resolved through established party mechanisms and the judiciary.
