Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Bode George has recalled his first meeting with former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairperson Farida Waziri, saying it occurred shortly before he was prosecuted and jailed over the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) case.
Speaking during an interview on The Legacy Series on Thursday, July 9, 2026, George said he met Waziri at the Presidential Villa through her husband, whom he described as a close friend. According to him, their interaction was brief, and he did not expect it would be followed by the EFCC’s investigation and prosecution.
“I met her once at the Villa. Her husband was a very good friend of mine, and she stopped to greet me. I asked if she was one of the staff members working with the president, and she replied, ‘No, EFCC.’ I said, ‘Oh, really.’ Before long, they took us before Justice Oyewole, and we were jailed,” George said.
He added that the subsequent prosecution over the NPA case came as a surprise, given the cordial nature of their encounter.
