Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has alleged that some acquaintances now avoid greeting him in public because they fear becoming targets of the government.
Speaking during an interview with Chude, Obi claimed the current political climate has made some associates reluctant to be seen with him. He also recounted a recent airport incident, alleging that his vehicle was singled out despite other vehicles being parked in the same area, which he said reflected the challenges he faces because of his political stance.
“People I know at the airport will not greet me because they fear they will become targets of the government,” Obi said. He also claimed that some friends had asked him not to attend family events, including weddings, birthdays and funerals, out of concern that his presence could attract unwanted attention.
Obi said Nigerians should not be afraid to associate with one another because of political differences and reiterated his commitment to promoting unity, compassion and mutual respect. He added that he would continue to speak out despite what he described as ongoing intimidation.
