A suspected bandit, Abubakar Usman, has been arrested by operatives of the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad and the SafeCity Security Service during a security operation in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.
According to a Daily Post report published on July 9, 2026, security operatives raided the forest following intelligence on suspected kidnappers operating in the area. A gun battle reportedly ensued before Usman was overpowered and arrested, while efforts continue to apprehend other members of the gang.
Investigators linked the operation to the July 2 abduction of Mrs. Blessing Chiedu along Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku. Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu said the kidnappers allegedly demanded a ₦100 million ransom and shared details of the operation on X.
In a video circulating online, Usman claimed he travelled from Niger State to Delta State, where he joined two others involved in kidnapping. He also alleged that the group reared cattle for an Abuja-based Alhaji and had previously received about ₦5 million in ransom from one victim.
“We are three in number. I’m from Niger State. We were using a pump-action gun,” the suspect said.
The claims made by the suspect remain unverified, and police investigations are ongoing.
