Physiotherapist Anita Baaki has recounted the final moments of late nurse Mary Habila in an affidavit filed before the Ebonyi State High Court. She said Habila told her she was tired and planned to take a shower before going to bed after returning from a hair appointment on June 26, 2026.
Baaki said they had travelled from Abuja to Ebonyi on June 24 with Federal Ministry of Works officials for an assignment led by Minister David Umahi and were lodged in adjoining rooms at a staff chalet in Uburu. The following morning, Habila failed to respond to calls or knocks. After the locked room was forced open, she was found unconscious and later confirmed dead at the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital. Police investigations continue as the minister’s lawyers seek a forensic autopsy to establish the cause of death before burial.
