Isaac Fayose, a social commentator and younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has criticised First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s call for wealthy musicians to spend less on luxury cars and give more to charity.
Speaking in an interview with Arise News, Fayose argued that the government, as custodian of public funds, should lead by example in supporting the poor rather than asking citizens to use their personal wealth. He cited security votes, claiming Oyo State receives about ₦1 billion and Ekiti about ₦500 million despite persistent insecurity.
Fayose proposed that state governments provide monthly interest-free loans of between ₦5 million and ₦20 million for three years to empower citizens. Using Ekiti as an example, he said allocating ₦1 billion monthly could benefit 1,000 families and reach about 48,000 people over a four-year administration, including dependents.
He defended musicians such as Davido and Burna Boy, noting that Davido donated nearly ₦500 million about a year ago. Fayose also alleged that almost ₦20 billion was spent on vote buying in Ekiti.
“How can you tell me? You have my commonwealth. I have personal wealth… You are telling me, the owner of my personal wealth, to now share with the poor, and the poor’s money is with you,” he said.
