Mr. Olatunde Zacchaeus, one of the teachers abducted during the attack on a school in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has recounted the moment he and another captive were unexpectedly released by their kidnappers.
Speaking in an interview with Nigeria Info FM, Zacchaeus said he and another male victim remained blindfolded, handcuffed, and had their legs chained throughout their captivity, leaving them unable to move freely or determine where they were being held.
He said the kidnappers at times appeared frustrated when events did not go as they had expected and repeatedly urged the captives to continue praying, advice they held onto while hoping for a safe release.
According to Zacchaeus, the atmosphere changed on the final day when the gang leader approached them smiling and laughing before telling them to thank God because they were about to regain their freedom. The abductors then removed their blindfolds, unlocked their handcuffs and leg chains, and ordered them to leave.
Zacchaeus described the unexpected release as the end of a frightening ordeal, saying the gang leader’s instruction to “thank God” remains one of his strongest memories of the experience.
