Former Minister of Sports Development and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Solomon Dalung has questioned Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s electoral strength in northern Nigeria, arguing that his alliance with Peter Obi would not necessarily improve his chances in the 2027 presidential election.
In an interview with Daily Independent published on Monday, July 20, 2026, Dalung said Kwankwaso had never won Kaduna or Katsina, asking, “He has never won Kaduna. He has never won Katsina. So, how will he win now? Will it now happen because Peter Obi is the candidate?”
Dalung also criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, claiming many Nigerians believe it has fallen short of expectations created by Tinubu’s record as Lagos governor. He argued that public perception of the President’s performance could affect his re-election bid and added that questions surrounding Tinubu’s qualifications may also feature prominently ahead of the 2027 polls.
On the ADC, Dalung dismissed claims that the departures of Kwankwaso and Peter Obi weakened the party, saying some of their supporters remained while former members were returning. He also criticized Obi for allegedly failing to sustain voter goodwill after the 2023 election through consistent engagement with supporters in states such as Plateau and Benue.
