Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development Solomon Dalung has called for a thorough investigation into the death of Mary Habila, saying every Nigerian deserves equal treatment under the law regardless of social or economic status.
Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Dalung said incidents involving the death of any citizen should be subjected to transparent and impartial scrutiny to preserve public confidence in the justice system.
“Why should the daughter of a poor man die in Umahi’s house without questions being asked?” Dalung said, while calling for a comprehensive explanation of the circumstances surrounding Habila’s death.
He argued that if the victim had been the child of a prominent public official, the case would likely have received immediate attention and extensive investigation. According to Dalung, every Nigerian, irrespective of status, deserves the same commitment to justice and accountability.
The former minister urged the relevant authorities to establish the facts through lawful investigative procedures, saying this would help address public concerns and strengthen trust in public institutions. He maintained that justice should never depend on a person’s social standing or family background.
