Seyed Mohammed Marandi, a professor of English Literature at the University of Tehran, has claimed that Iran is gradually degrading the air defense network established by the United States across the Persian Gulf and Jordan, which he said was designed to protect Israel from Iranian missile and drone attacks.
In a post on his verified X account, Marandi wrote that Iran is “destroying the many layers of defense that the US created in the Persian Gulf and Jordan to protect the Zionist regime from Iranian missiles and drones.”
He also claimed that Iran would not launch another round of attacks unless Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acts first, arguing that Tehran believes it holds a strategic advantage as political tensions continue to rise within Israel.
Marandi suggested that the domestic challenges facing Netanyahu’s government could influence the timing and direction of any future military escalation.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with recent reports of continued missile and drone exchanges involving Iran, Israel and the United States, raising concerns over the potential expansion of the regional conflict.
