Dr. Katch Ononuju, Director-General of the Heritage Centre, has alleged that some leaders in Northern Nigeria have links to the sponsorship of terrorist groups operating in the country.
Speaking during an interview on SYMFONI TV, Ononuju argued that Nigeria’s security challenges cannot be effectively addressed without examining the role of influential individuals allegedly connected to terrorist networks.
“A lot of the leaders in the North are also part and parcel of the sponsorship platforms and the patrons of these terrorists,” he said.
Ononuju did not present evidence during the interview to substantiate the allegation but maintained that the issue should not be overlooked.
He called for investigations to identify and hold accountable anyone found to be sponsoring or supporting terrorist activities, arguing that military operations alone are insufficient to end insecurity.
The Heritage Centre Director-General said a comprehensive approach that includes uncovering and prosecuting those allegedly financing or enabling criminal networks is essential to addressing the country’s persistent security challenges.
